Polarized diffraction of two point sources: horizontal and diagonal (45-degree) orientations

As you might guess, the diffraction pattern of two point sources which are neither parallel nor orthogonal is something between the two extremes. Here is the intensity and phase of the x-y pattern for horizontal and diagonal sources:


And the polarization:


In this case (and for other intermediate angles) we see an interference pattern in both the intensity and polarization domains. By changing the polarization angle between sources, we can move the interference continuously from one domain to the other.
